As a Deacon in the early church, Saint Phoebe, sent by the Apostle Paul, ministered in the church of Cenchreae, a busy port near Corinth, which was a common stop for travelers. Weary travelers were able to hear the message of hope and love from St. Phoebe, and she also used her social connections and wealth to help those who needed it most in terms of support and basic human needs. On Saturday, August 2, ten enthusiastic hikers gathered for our very first group outing at the beautiful Discovery Park. It was a wonderful morning of connection, fresh air, and breathtaking views. As we walked the trails together, new friendships began to form and conversations flowed easily. We concluded our hike with a heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving, grateful for the gift of community and God’s creation. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure—stay tuned! St. Vincent de Paul has been helping an increasing number of needy neighbors. As a result, the pantry shelves have many empty areas. We can especially use canned fruit, soup, protein bars, pasta sauce, laundry detergent, and shampoo. We can also use paper grocery bags. With your help, we can continue to help our neighbors. Donations can be left in the narthex of the church or brought to the church office during their business hours. Thank you.

Dear Friends in Christ, I confess that I spend a little time most days scrolling through the Instagram social media site. Today, I came upon a beautiful version of Bob Dylan’s 1964 song “The Times They Are a-Changing” made popular by the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary. The choir singing their version of the song on Instagram was young men and women in their late teens and early twenties who were not even born when the song was first released. The words to the song speak to them as they still do to me after all these years.

The Homebound Ministry at our NE Catholic parish family currently has 17 volunteers who regularly bring the Holy Eucharist and provide companionship to 59 parishioners at 15 different locations. This includes our seniors, the sick, and those disabled or recovering from an injury who are living at home or in a local care facility but are not able to attend Mass. Continue reading...
