Do you know who St. Phoebe is? As a Deacon in the early church Saint Phoebe, sent by the Apostle Paul, ministered in the church of Cenchreae, a busy port near Corinth, which was a common stop for travelers. Weary travelers were able to hear the message of hope and love from St. Phoebe and she also used her social connections and wealth to help those who needed it most in terms of support and basic human needs.
Her sainthood is commemorated on September 3rd and since 2023 our parishes have been celebrating her by highlighting the leadership roles of women in our church and uplifting their voices at Mass. This year we will have three young women from our parish family provide reflections at Mass.

Sunday, Sept. 14th at 9am at Assumption - Emma Eastwood and at St. Bridget’s - EvaMaria Chavez
And at 11am at OLL - Cecilia Engel and at St. Catherine’s - EvaMaria Chavez
Cece is a sophomore at Bishop Blanchet and has attended OLL parish her whole life. At school, she’s involved in choir and theater and outside school she is a member of the Seattle Girls Choir and helps with Children's Liturgy of the Word at OLL.
Emma is a freshman at Bishop Blanchet and has been a member of the Assumption parish since she was born. At ASB she was involved in the Children’s Choir and was active in the drama program. She also enjoys drawing and writing.
EvaMaria is a senior at Bishop Blanchet. She attended OLL school and has been a member there for many years. She has spoken at Mass before on behalf of the Agape Mission trip as she has served there many times.
Thank you to Cece, Emma and EvaMaria as well as the members of our Phoebe Circle who have helped plan this weekend. We will have members of our group available for questions after Mass. Our Phoebe Circle meets monthly to capture the energy ignited by St. Phoebe and continue to support and bring forward female voices in our community.
