Mission Statement for Racial Solidarity Network

We will work within the North Seattle Deanery to eradicate the sin of racism through awareness, education, and action. We acknowledge the challenge of this Mission in light of the lack of diversity in our parishes and neighborhoods, which is rooted in structural racism and white privilege.

To accomplish this, we will:
 

1. Promote education in our parishes and our local communities to organize and facilitate dialogues about the sin of racism, including its root causes and the harm done.

2. Develop and implement action plans to dismantle structures and attitudes that perpetuate racism in the Catholic Church and in the larger community.

3. Collaborate with the ecumenical inter-religious community and with all people of goodwill to repair the breach caused by racism.

4. Communicate the ongoing work of Racial Solidarity in the North Seattle Deanery by raising awareness, and sharing resources, successes, and challenges.

5. Examine the intersectionality of systemic racism with justice issues, including environmental justice, restorative justice, housing, education, and immigration.
