Our celebration of Christmas continues this weekend with the Feast of the HolyFamily of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. It’s a special reminder that our faith in Emmanuel, God with us, can never be a purely personal or private encounter, but always within a community of others. Whether that is our family of origins or the family we choose to create, our human nature is inherently communal. We are joined together in the journey of life, and to those we come to consider family. It is with them that we will experience some of the best, and at times some of the worst that life has to offer.
This continued Christmas feast celebrates The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, who call us and challenge us to open our sense of family to include the poor, the homeless, the lost and forgotten, the immigrant, and those whose lifestyles are so radically different than ours. That’s what makes family life, wherever we experience it, something holy. This feast is a timely reminder that our mission as a family of Catholics in NE Seattle is to grow together in holiness, so that when anyone gathers with us, they have an intimate experience of the love of God! Here’s to all the blessings given to us to share as a church family!
