As I write this on Tuesday, January 10, we still have our church decorated for Christmas. The decorations will come down later today, which is appropriate as it’s not Christmas anymore. The church returns to the observance of “Ordinary Time” which is the celebration of God’s presence and grace in the everyday, mundane, and oh-so-plain moments of our lives. If you think about it, that’s where we live most of the time, sharing the “Sacrament of the present moment.”
Yet even as we carry the blessings of our recent Christmas time forward into the calendar year, we keep our eyes on the horizon for some wonderful things to come. That includes the sacred season of Lent which begins on February 22 and the great Easter season which commences on April 9. Before those sacred seasons, we have one more special thing to look forward to…our parish feast day!!!!
The church celebrates the feast of St. Bridget of Kildare on February 1, which this year will be a National Holiday in Ireland in recognition of her great impact on the history and culture of that country. We will gather to celebrate our parish patron on Saturday, February 4th following our regular Saturday 5:00 pm Mass. This is a special occasion to celebrate our mission as a faith community. “Rooted in the Gospel of Christ, we are a Catholic parish community, welcoming all people to pray, love, and serve together.”
Our upcoming parish feast day is also a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to all who generously contribute their time, talent, and treasure to the life of St. Bridget’s. Now that’s really something to look forward to! Please mark your calendars and join me and each other for this special celebration on February 4th!
St. Bridget of Kildare…pray for us! Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!
