Dear Friends in Christ,

The Epiphany of the Lord we celebrate this weekend reminds us that our faith in Christ is meant to inspire us to share his love and compassion with all peoples of the world. How can average folks like us do that in a global community so diverse and often divided in our time? The following words by the spiritual writer Robert Adams offer us a path to follow in the new year of 2026, which we have begun:

“The highest thing you can do is to stop thinking about yourself and your problems and be joyful. Go out of your way to help others. Feed the hungry, visit the housebound. Forgive everyone, create peace. Use your gifts, your talents, to go out of your way to alleviate the suffering of others with a smile on your face. You can discern your true spiritual stature by your loving kindness…if the end result of illumination is love, compassion, and humility, what if we were to do that now?”

One thing we begin this new year with is a 5:00 pm Sunday Mass at Assumption Church, starting this Sunday, January 4^th. As I have mentioned, this is not an Assumption parish Mass, but one sponsored by the entire NE Seattle Catholic Community. So, we need people in our family of parishes to volunteer to serve as lectors, servers, EMs, choir members, and hospitality ministers. As always, please feel welcome to attend this Mass time, or any of the ones we offer in our family. Spread the word, all are welcome!
