We began November by celebrating the Solemnity of All Saints Day. One of my favorite saints has always been St. Josemaría Escrivá. He was born in Barbastro, Spain, on January 9, 1902. He was ordained to the priesthood in Zaragoza, Spain, on March 28, 1925. On October 2, 1928, by divine inspiration, he founded Opus Dei—a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church that fosters among Christians the search for holiness in the world, especially in the ordinary circumstances of life and the sanctification of work.

 

What resonates with me about The Work is finding God in the ordinary and everyday tasks of life. You don’t have to do big, world-changing things to know God. You can glorify him with your studies, doing the dishes, or driving your kids to soccer. Life gets so busy and cluttered that it can feel impossible to fit in prayer and build your relationship with the Lord, but we don’t have to go out of our way to find him; he is there in the everyday work.

 

St. Josemaría once wrote: “For the daily life we live, apparently so ordinary, can be a path to sanctity: it is not necessary to abandon one’s place in the world in order to search for God…because all the paths of the earth can be the occasion for an encounter with Christ.” How can you find Christ in your daily life, and will you let him transform your ordinary life into an extraordinary one?
